AMC-8

The math department at UNC-CH will host the AMC-8 contest on (tentatively) Wednesday, January 22, 2025, starting at 6:30 pm in Phillips Hall room TBD on UNC campus. The paper version of the test (not the digital version) will be offered.

The AMC-8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics containing challenging and interesting problems. Students across the United States and Canada take this contest every year. Any students in grade 8 and below can participate. Calculators are not allowed.

Please visit the MAA website  for general information on the AMC-8 . The Art of Problem Solving maintains an extensive collection old AMC-8 contests which you can use to practice.

There is no required fee to take the contest at UNC-Chapel Hill; however, a $10 donation to the math department is suggested to help cover the cost of contest materials. Donations can be made at: https://give.unc.edu/donate?p=MATH or can be made in person on the day of the contest, by cash or check made out to UNC Math Department.

To register to take the AMC-8 contest at UNC-CH please fill out this AMC-8 form. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until capacity of 60 students is reached.  You will receive details by email about 1 week before the contest.
